Favorite Hydrating Recipes for Summer

Getting outdoors for summer fitness makes for a good sweaty workout. What this also means is that I must make even more of an effort to stay hydrated. We’re all familiar with the recommended daily amounts of water we should consume but water could use a kick sometimes, don’t you think?

Also, water alone may not always hydrate you. Here are a few ideas that I love for staying hydrated in the summer.

Smoothie

Green Warrior Machine Smoothie

Ingredients:
Coconut water
Strawberries
Kale
Lime
Flaxseeds
Raw honey
Vanilla protein powder
ice

Blend and enjoy!
This is my favorite recipe to start out the day.

Fruit Water

Fresh fruit, herbs, cucumber or even ginger in water is also very delicious and refreshing. Water with fruit is a healthier alternative to fruit juice and more refreshing long-term. While the fruit juice leaves your thirst satisfied for the moment, you actually end up “tanking” later from the sugar rush and crave more sugars later. Drinking the water with fresh fruit hydrates you, keeps you mentally alert by not letting your body go thru ups/downs in your blood sugar.

Here are some of my favorite combinations:

  • Homemade lemonade with a little ginger for a “kick”. Very refreshing and the ginger is great for digestion.
  • Lime and mint
  • Cucumber, strawberry and kiwi
  • Cucumber, lemon and lime
  • Raspberries, lemon and mint

This website has fruit water recipes that are begging to be tasted!

I hope that you all are out enjoying the hot weather while we have it. Just remember to keep refilling and refueling with great choices.

Hugs and love,
Gail
